San Francisco Grown – A Common Vision of Environmentally Sustainable Values

Heartfelt thanks from all of us at FUF to everyone who made our very first San Francisco Grown an enormous success.  The sold-out event on April 27th, which FUF co-produced with Greens restaurant, was presented by our friends at Esurance. Greens Executive Chef Annie Somerville and Christopher and Amber Marie Bently co-chaired the evening, which united foodies and tree huggers under the canopy of green activism.

The star of San Francisco Grown was the special menu created by Annie, which featured artesianal cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery and fresh produce from several Bay Area farms, and was complemented by a selection of organic and biodynamic wines.  Guest speaker Katrina Heron, Chair of the Board for Slow Food Nation, joined FUF’s very own Executive Director Kelly Quirke on stage to emphasize the connection between the greater environmental movement and one’s individual choice to consume foods from sustainable sources.

Toward the end of the programmatic segment of the evening, Kelly summed things up perfectly when he closed his speech with the following remarks: “Actions matter.  Every choice you make is an action, and by choosing local, organic food to eat, or to plant and care for a tree, you are part of one body harmoniously creating a healthy and thriving city and planet.”
