A living, potted Christmas tree is a way to “green” your holidays!
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with the San Francisco Department of the Environment and Hayes Valley Art Works, Friends of the Urban Forest invited San Franciscans to adopt future street trees for the holidays. For a tax-deductible donation, each program participant got a beautiful, three-to-six-foot-tall, non-traditional tree to bring home for decoration and enjoyment. After the trees were returned to us, we used them in our Neighborhood Tree Planting program.
Our Green Christmas Trees are better for the environment than traditional cut trees. They reduce waste and post-holiday litter — and once they’re planted on the streets of San Francisco, they provide benefits for generations. We hope to offer them again in 2021.
Consider also getting our Tree Tribute Trio. When you make a gift of $100 or more, we’ll mail you a trio of three limited-edition tribute cards. Each blank card represents a new street tree that we’ll plant in San Francisco to honor your loved one or a special milestone. Details here.
