Tree Care Leader

Job description:
Lead a group during a Saturday Tree Care Workday.

Work schedule:
1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month, 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Rain cancels.

Duties:
1. Lead a group of 2-5 people to visit and maintain small trees
2. Demonstrate the proper techniques of tree pruning, root assessment and hardware adjustment
3. Field questions about trees and FUF program
4. Have a good sense of safety
5. Have good people skills
6. Use time and resources efficiently

Work environment:
Outdoors. Location varies throughout San Francisco. Dress accordingly. Wear sunscreen, jeans, sweater or T shirt, garden gloves, and hat. Bring a bottle of water. We don’t work in the rain.

Qualifications:
Must be in good health, although there is not much heavy lifting involved. Good knowledge of trees. Taking the Pruning Workshop is strongly recommended, or comparable education/experience. You should have volunteered on several Tree Care Workdays and worked with several of our existing leaders to learn about what we do.

Staff person’s role:
Tree Care Coordinator coordination, supervision, and additional training as necessary.
