CHARACTER: Evergreen; weeping form; moderate canopy.
SIZE: (Height 25-35'; Spread 25').
GROWTH RATE: Slow.
FOLIAGE: Apple-green, serrated, oval leaves, 1" long, lacy in appearance. Occasional partial leaf drop after bloom.
FLOWER/FRUIT/BARK: Tiny greenish flowers in clusters, bloom April-May. _", Small, hard orange seed capsules form in summer. Rough, charcoal-gray bark.
MONTHLY WATERING NEEDS: 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as needed after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions).
TREE CARE: High. Early pruning needed to train a good shape; pruning needed less frequently with age. Removal of root suckers. Sidewalk clean-up during seed capsule drop.
TOLERANCES: Drought (once established), any soil, fog.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: 4'x4' basin recommended. Prefers sun and space. Needs good drainage. Does not tolerate strong or gusty winds. Can be susceptible to aphids during bloom.
NOTABLE TRAITS: Native to Central Chile. Has beautiful, weeping form.
ALTERNATE FORMS: 'Green Showers' variety has slightly broader leaves with less flower and seed production.
