CHARACTER: Deciduous; round form; open canopy.
SIZE: Small (Height: 20": Spread: 15).
GROWTH RATE: Moderate.
FOLIAGE: Spring foliage red-purple changing to red-green in the summer, bronze fall color. Leaves ovate to oblong, 3 long with serrated margins.
FLOWER/FRUIT/BARK: Flowers are rich reddish pink appearing late in the spring; fruit red-purple 1/4" across. Bark is smooth, light brown-red.
MONTHLY WATERING NEEDS: 1st year: 4; 2nd year: 3; 3rd year: 1.
TREE CARE: Moderate. Requires pruning of selected branches to lift into a quality, small street tree.
TOLERANCES: One of the most tolerant cultivars to pests and diseases. Good tree for 2 x 3 basins. Prefer well-drained soil and warm and sunny microclimates.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Prefers full sun and warm microclimates. Subject to spider mites.
NOTABLE TRAITS: Very attractive small street tree with form, flower, foliage and bark.
ALTERNATE FORM: The straight species of flowering crabapple, Malus floribunda, may prove to be the most tolerant to pests and diseases
