CHARACTER: Evergreen; round form; dense canopy.
SIZE: Medium (Height: 25-35'; Spread: 25').
GROWTH RATE: Fast
FOLIAGE: Dark green, glossy, oval leaves, 2-4" long.
FLOWER/FRUIT/BARK: Creamy white, fragrant flowers in clusters 4-8" long, bloom April-June. Blue-black berries, 1/4" across, form in late summer and drop in fall. Smooth gray-brown bark.
MONTHLY WATERING NEEDS: 1st year: 4; 2nd year: 4; 3rd year: 4.
TREE CARE: Moderate. Requires annual pruning, sidewalk cleanup during flower drop.
TOLERANCES: Poor drainage; any soil; gusty winds; fog; sun or shade; containers.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Root barrier recommended. Does not tolerate extreme or constant winds. Needs extra water in hot or windy conditions, or sandy soil. Berries can stain sidewalks.
NOTABLE TRAITS: Glossy foliage is extremely attractive. Fragrant flowers attract bees; berries attract birds.
