SIZE: Medium (Height: 25-35'; Spread: 15').
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
FOLIAGE: Medium-green, glossy, oval leaves, 2-6" long.
FLOWER/FRUIT/BARK: Yellow, very fragrant flowers, 1" long, in clusters 2-3" across, bloom May-September. Insignificant fruit. Smooth, gray bark.
MONTHLY WATERING NEEDS: 1st year: 4; 2nd year: 4; 3rd year: 4.
TREE CARE: Low. Requires light annual pruning; sidewalk cleanup during flower drop. Stake and prune when young to develop good branch structure.
TOLERANCES: Sandy soil.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Only plant in sunny microclimates. Does not tolerate wind or fog. Needs good drainage. Needs extra water in hot conditions.
NOTABLE TRAITS: Sweetshade is known for its flower fragrance; of orange blossoms or honey. Attracts birds and bees.
