| CHARACTER:
Deciduous; irregular form; open canopy. SIZE: Medium (Height: 20-35'; Spread: 20'). GROWTH RATE: Moderate. FOLIAGE: Green, saturated compound leaves with oval leaflets 1" long. Fall foliage yellow, but intensity depends on fall temperature; tree bare October- April. FLOWER/FRUIT/BARK: Insignificant flowers, may have a few long brown seedpods. Rough, brown bark. MONTHLY WATERING NEEDS: In general, 15-20 gallons per week for the first 2 years; 15-20 gallons twice a month for the 3rd year; as needed after 3 years (varies by soil, sun, and wind conditions). TREE CARE: Moderate. Needs early pruning establish and maintain central leader, and to encourage upright growth. TOLERANCES: Drought (once established), sand or clay soil, smog. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Prefers sun and warmth. Does not tolerate wind. Naturally has a spreading structure. NOTABLE TRAITS: Native to central and eastern North America. Lacy foliage, seasonal interest. More disease resistant than other varieties. ALTERNATE FORMS: 'Moraine' has a spreading form, and is subject to wind breakage. |
