CHARACTER: Evergreen; spreading, umbrella-like form; dense canopy.
SIZE: Medium (Height: 25-35'; Spread: 25').
GROWTH RATE: Moderate
FOLIAGE: Dark green, pinnate leaves with slightly serrated, oval leaflets 2-3" long.
FLOWER/FRUIT/BARK: Insignificant flowers. Female trees produce tiny red berries in clusters, which dry on tree and drop in winter. Rough, gray-brown bark.
MONTHLY WATERING NEEDS: 1st year: 4; 2nd year: 3; 3rd year: 1.
TREE CARE: Moderate. Requires annual pruning in late summer to allow wind to pass through branches. Stake and prune when young to develop good branch structure.
TOLERANCES: Drought; sandy soil; strong or cold winds; fog; smog.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Rootguard necessary. Prefers sun. Limbs can be brittle. Will develop verticillium wilt with too much water. Prone to thrips.
