Storm blowover? Vandalism? Bad parking job?
To report a small fallen or leaning tree, please call 415/561-6890 x102. Calling is better than email because sometimes staff and volunteers work from home dispatching the calls and can't get the emails. We depend on neighborhood volunteers for much of our tree rescue, average response time is a few days to a week. We dispatch volunteers for trees planted through FUF that are under 5 years old. For larger jobs, we may refer you to an arborist.
Our oncall volunteers are regular folks who donate their
spare time to save small fallen or leaning trees in their
neighborhood. They have simple tools and training and work
out of their own vehicles. The work they do is not a substitute
for the routine maintenance that the property owner is responsible
for.
We can only upright small trees. This means the trunk is
2" or less in diameter and/or trees 15 feet or less in
height.
If you want to upright your own tree, its also possible
to borrow a stake pounder from FUF(561-6890 ext. 102) or from the Tool Lending
Center, 701-TOOL (701-8665). Stakes are available from FUF or from Ewing
Irrigation, 695-9530. You can also purchase your own stake
pounder from Ewing Irrigation or the Urban Farmer, 661-2204.
For trees maintained by the city, or for hazards such as a tree on a power line, call the city at 311. A privately maintained tree that might be saved with
a good pruning job, call an arborist. Click here to see which streets and blocks the city maintains the trees on.
We always need more neighborhood volunteers! Well
provide tools and training. Small trees can be saved
but only with your help. No other agencies have the resources
to do it. Help make a difference in your neighborhood today!

Tips to save your small tree after a storm:
Until the tree can be uprighted, try to prop it up off the
sidewalk as best as possible. Remember, the city has the authority
to remove a tree that is obstructing the path of travel. Keep
the roots covered and moist until the leaning tree is corrected.
Water the tree after it has been uprighted to prevent shock.
Continue watering on a regular basis to encourage new root
growth.
Prevent your next emergency call! Check the trees hardware
periodically and make sure the tree is pruned on a regular
basis. Dont wait until the next storm to hire an arborist.
They will all be very busy then! See Stakes, Ties and Fencing
and pruning for more details.
