Groups
Volunteer groups are encouraged to join us for a Saturday tree planting or help us with a weekday activity such as Nursery or Tool Maintenance. Please check the job descriptions below, then contact Doug Lybeck to schedule a volunteer date.

- Tool Cleaning and Maintenance: Great team building activity for 10 to 15 people. Tools get worn down from weekly tree plantings and bi-weekly tree care and they need occasional sharpening and repainting. Duties include tool sharpening, repainting barricades and tool handles, and cleaning.
- Nursery Ground Maintenance: Another great team building activity for 10 to 15 people. Outside our office is a small nursery for FUF trees. Our tree care staff will show you how to trim back the trees, readjust ties and maintain the grounds. Duties include pruning and thinning of FUF nursery and garden trees, adusting and refitting ties, weed-pulling around tree pots, and restocking mulch piles and adding mulch around garden trees.
- Tree Planting: Participate in street tree planting to assist neighborhoods to plant 15 gallon trees. We can accommodate groups up to ten people and volunteers are divided up into smaller planting groups. Many tree planters have become Tree Planting Leaders with additional training. Duties include all the aspects of planting trees, under the guidance of Planting Leaders and Planting Managers: digging holes, staking and tying new trees, watering, supporting newly planted trees, cleaning up, etc.
We encourage you to fill-out a Volunteer Application so that we can have your contact information and availability in our database. Our Events Calendar lists neighborhoods that are scheduled for an upcoming tree planting or tree care workday.
We look forward to fostering a relationship with all interested volunteer groups. Whether you are a corporate group, school group or volunteer agency looking for volunteer opportunities, we will try to accommodate your group’s schedule and interests.
