2006 SUMMER SESSION

The Summer 2006 Youth Tree Care Program Crew: Steve aka Crew Leader, Tone, Ryan, Chris, Fredreena, Tiffany aka Assistant Crew Leader, Johnmark, Kellie, Meg-Anne, Devon and Octavia. Not pictured: Silvia aka Assitant Crew Leader

Surrounded by tree care tools, Chris, Steve and Meg-Anne pound in new stakes for a Crataegus phaenopyrum in the Mission district

Tiffany, Meg-Anne, Fredreena and Kellie hang out before the fun begins at the July 22nd Mission Planting. Check out Meg-Anne, sporting the FUF stunner shades aka safety glasses.

Tone is rearin' and ready to plant some FUF trees!

Kellie and Tiffany tickle the roots of a Tristania conferta just before putting it into the ground. Can ya see the sweat on their brows?

Johnmark stands by the ready to backfill while Meg-Anne double checks the height of a Metrosideros excelsus in its basin at the July 29th Richmond planting.

Meg-Anne and community volunteers hold the stake steady and spot Johnmark while he pounds in a stake. FUF trees are easily recognizable by FUF's signature three stake and three brace hardware.

Johnmark nails a brace to a stake for a Tristaniopsis laurina (formerly Tristania laurina). The stake and brace structures not only provide support fro young trees but they also provide protection from cars and mean people.

The Youth Crew spent a day and a half working at Double Rock Farm. The Crew cared for the farm's fruit trees, pruned hedges, fertilized the garden and even removed a very smelly dead skunk! And we thought live skunks were smelly, whew!

Meg-Anne ties a fruit tree to its stake while Octavia holds the fruit tree in place. Together, these two ladies tackled any task given to them with smiles.

Chris supports a fruit tree while Devon adjusts the hardware. Chris knew the city like the back of his hand and became a valuable asset during traffic hour. Devon was known for his FUF dance!

Before
The Youth Crew spent a day and a half beautifying Franconia Street by removing weeds and fennel, laying down wood chips and pruning Acacias and Pines.

Silvia, Meg-Anne, Tiffany and Octavia push through the tedious task of removing weeds with smiles and jokes.

After

WOW! What a difference a Crew of Youth can make.

The Crew went on a challenging hike near Alpine Dam. Here's Meg-Anne, the Crew's Amazon Woman, hear her roar!

The hike was the toughest, longest one in all of the Bay Area. Here are some of the champions: Ryan, Octavia, Meg-Anne, Devon and Steve.
