Plant a Community of Trees with Friends of the Urban Forest
It Starts with You
San Franciscans rely on Friends of the Urban Forest to help them plant and maintain trees for a more beautiful and healthy city. But we need to do more. Our city has fewer trees than most – and we urgently need to take better care of the trees we have to keep our city green.
It’s Easy
Our trained staff and volunteers will help you every step of the way to make sure your neighborhood planting is successful.
- We help organize your planting and provide assistance in recruiting volunteers.
- We arrange for permits, sidewalk cutting, delivery of trees and other preparations.
- All you have to do is contact your neighbors, attend a community meeting, select your tree – and get ready to dig!
- The price of a tree - currently only $100 - also includes 2 tree care visits and as your tree grows we are here to advise you on proper tree care to ensure your trees develop well.
What Trees do for You
- Trees fight pollution by filtering particulates from the air and releasing oxygen.
- Trees increase privacy and help absorb traffic noise.
- Trees create relaxing, beautiful and healthy spaces.
- Trees provide habitat for the city’s birds, squirrels and other wildlife.
- Trees direct water into the ground instead of our overtaxed sewer system.
- Trees shelter your home from strong winds and reduce energy bills.
- Trees provide city streets with seasonal color and fragrance.
- Trees enhance property values. A row of mature street trees increases property values by up to 20%.
